We've been scouring the web and stores for the best Black Friday 2018 deals in South Africa – and amid the TVs and groceries and games we've also come across a couple of deals that are slightly more peculiar. These are the ones that have stood out so far.

A "Star Wors: The Braaier Awakens" apron for R102 (you're welcome)

YouNeek, retailers of punny South African goods, is charging R102 for its fine Star Wars inspired apron until midnight. The same price also applies to some of its customised funny braai aprons.

(That 40% discount went live on Friday morning after Business Insider South Africa complained that YouNeek's site-wide 20% discount wasn't entirely worthy of Black Friday.)

A R149,001 saving on a bottle of whisky

Only in stores, Makro will sell you a single 750ml bottle of The Glenlivet Winchester Collection 50-year-old whiskey for the special low price of R399,999 – approximately the price of a small new car.

Makro is being slightly dramatic in this case, because you can actually buy the same bottle for a mere R429,000 elsewhere, making the practical saving closer to R29,000.

20% off baobab seeds

Seeds for Africa is offering 20% off everything on its site, which features a wide range of seeds – including Adansonia digitata, or the baobab.

Africa's oldest baobabs are dying, possibly due to climate change, but they are easy to grow, at least at first.

With rounding down, the seeds will be going for R8 each instead of R11, so not exactly a huge saving – unless you are planning a baobab forest.

12.5% off saddles and other horse-related stuff

The Western Shoppe is offering 12.5% off everything on its website (if you use the code BF2018) on checkout. That means you can save R10,248 on the normally nearly R82,000 Prestige X-D1D Zero Anniversary Dressage Saddle for the special horse in your life.

Or for whatever purpose you may require a saddle; we're not here to judge.

22.5% off "vintage-inspired" women's shoes (but only via email)

Local footwear manufacturer Bear Bear & Me is selling its super-cute women's shoes for R690 rather than the usual R890 – but only if you know to ask. It's website makes no mention of the deal, and you can't order the shoes directly. Instead you have to mail orders@bearbearandme.com to get it.

50% off a trip to the theatre in Johannesburg

The Joburg Theatre is running a 50% off sale midnight to midnight on Friday for some of its shows, including specific performances of "Janice Honeyman’s Snow White, The Fairest Panto in All The Land", which is on until 23 December. For the cheap seats, that is a saving of R490 for a family of four.

If you pre-book for Guitar Wizards starting at the end of February, or for Sinatra and Me which starts towards the end of March, the 50% discount applies to all shows for their entire runs.
