Cape Town – SANParks has asked visitors and stakeholders to comment on the possible construction of a 40 Megawatt hydropower station on the Orange River, North of the Augrabies Falls.
The power station would be driven with water harvested from the Orange River upstream of the Augrabies Falls and is anticipated to have an impact on the popular tourist attraction.
SANParks said in a statement that as custodians of the falls, they want to engage with visitors to ascertain what the general perceptions about the proposed hydropower station development are.
Interested parties can complete an online survey put together by North West University’s Tourism Research in Economic Environs and Society department.
A compilation of preliminary comments and responses dating back to February 2013 can be accessed online for more information.
