WATCH: Selfie causes $200 000 of damage to artwork

Traveller24

How far will you go for the ideal selfie with the 'perfect' lighting? A woman reaches to far for the 'right angle' in her selfie and causes damage to an artists presentation.

Selfie 'domino effect'

Have you ever had those dreams where you trip over something and it seems to knock everything down or when you visit a store that sells a large amount of glass wear do you find yourself clingy to your arms? - in desperate hope that you will not knock anything down? This incident is everyone's fear coming true.

The incident took place at Simon Birch's art installation at the 14th Factory in Los Angeles. The woman concerned tried to get the ideal angle as she bent down in front of the display but lost her balance - causing the most expensive 'domino effect' of damage. Her face is stunned as she watches the sculpture stands pummel downwards.

This domino effect is our worst nightmare coming true. The damage that was done to the artwork has amounted to over R 260 million. We can only assume that there was an immediate regret for trying to get the perfect selfie in.

The artwork that was displayed and damaged is a sculpture of crowns that is called Hypercaine - The Reward. According to the artists that worked on these sculptures in a collaboration - the materials used to make the sculptures were precious metals, marble, wood, nylon and scrap metal. Due to the use of materials the expense of the items is extensive.

We can only hope that the policy of the gallery is not 'you break it, you buy it' - because it will be a hefty bill for the woman concerned.
