If you still don't know just how remarkable South Africa's Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden is, wake up and smell the fynbos! This year our magnificent national garden took home its 37th gold at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show.
But Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is not only the epitome of the Cape Floral Kingdom - the flowers and vegetation that can be seen here represent the smallest of the six recognised floral kingdoms of the world. Yet, it is home to more than 9 000 vascular plant species, of which 69% are endemic.
More than that, it is a popular haven for Capetonians and international visitors, who flock to the garden to see the flowers and get a weekly dose of culture during the Sunday Sunset concerts that take place here during the summer months.
This Youth Day, the kids will be given the chance to enter the gardens for free. From Saturday 15th June to Monday 8th July 2019, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is hosting its annual Winter Wonders Special. Children 17 years and younger get free entry to Kirstenbosch and the chance to enjoy an exciting kids programme, packed with fun-filled activities at the Moyo Kirstenbosch Restaurant.
These include drumming, arts ‘n crafts, slime-making, movies, rides and more.
The Winter Wonders Special is a great opportunity for families to explore the most beautiful garden in Africa and learn more about its magnificent and meticulously-cultivated indigenous flora. At the info desk, ask about the free 90 minute guided tours, or simply grab a map and go your own way. Parents, note spots are limited to arrive in time.
