Cape Town does it for SA, Africa in 2016 Travel + Leisure awards

Cape Town - The Mother City represents South African and the entire African continent with flying colours again, as she was just named the very best city in Africa and the Middle East, as well as the 10th best city globally by Travel + Leisure in New York . 

Cape Town dusted out Beirut in Lebanon and Jerusalem in Israel, who ranked in the second and third places of the Africa and Middle East sections of Travel + Leisure's World's Best awards, respectively.

Most recently, US News & World Report also ranked the Mother City as the 11th Best Place to Visit globally, saying "the Mother City is unlike any other destination in Africa".

Cape Town may rank at number 10 according to T+L, but the Mother City was recently named the 2015/2016 Telegraph Travel Awards' Best City in the World for the fourth year running, knocking-out Vancouver and Venice, which took second and third place respectively in the Best City category.

In Condé Nast’s highly acclaimed Reader’s Choice Awards, the Cape Town was also named as the number one food city in the world!

The awards keep on rolling in for the Mother City. But Africa as a whole is getting more an more traction. 

Seychelles was also named the Number One Top Island in Africa and the Middle East in Travel + Leisure’s 2016 World’s Best Awards.



 The Travel + Leisure 2016 World’s Best Awards are voted by readers of the international publication, who are experienced travellers. They are asked to cast their votes annually for hotels, destinations and companies that epitomise the very best in travel globally. 
 
Islands are rated on their natural attractions and beaches, activities and sights, restaurants and food, people and friendliness, value, and as an optional criteria, its romantic appeal.  For each characteristic, respondents are asked to rate a candidate on a five-point scale of excellence.

Cities are rated on their sights and landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping and overall value.
