The 2021 Christmas season is nearing, and this year's most coveted toys are Jurassic World-inspired dinosaurs, a Batmobile ride-on, and the INSTAX mini camera, Toys R Us has revealed.

This year's top trends are inspired by outdoor play, creative building toys, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills toys. Sensory play and educational toys that support remote learning also made the list of the top trends, Catherine Jacoby, Toys R Us' marketing head, said.

Toys R Us revealed its annual Geoffrey's Top Toys 2021 last week, which indicates what toys will dominate and likely feature on children's wish lists this festive season.

Toy unboxing - where taking the gift out of the box is an event - and interactive playsets are also hot this year. When it comes to unboxing, expect colour reveals, super scents, and multi-box openings featuring across all types of toys, the retailer said.

In this category, the Rainbocorns Jelly Shake Surprise, Barbie, and Hot Wheels Colour Reveal are some of the favourites.

Fidget spinners, which have the added benefits of reducing anxiety, and increasing motor skills, are also in demand.

The list also highlights how the pandemic brought families closer together as outdoor play became more prevalent.

"Jurassic World remains the top brand for Dinosaurs with realistic detail and movement, with our top toy being the Jurassic World Stomp and Escape T Rex," it said.

The retailer this year has added radio control toys that have a higher performance which will enable kids of all ages to enjoy them for longer, Jacoby said.

"The Nexx range is next level now and offers older kids the joy of performance and quality whilst remaining easy to use and ready to run straight out of the box," she said.

These are the toys expected to be the bestsellers during the 2021 Christmas holiday season
