Legends Barbershop, which has been described as a true South African success story, has recently partnered with Uber Eats, allowing customers to get their favourite hair products and accessories delivered to their doors.

Born on the tough streets of Eldorado Park in Johannesburg, Sheldon Tatchell recently celebrated a 10-year milestone in his successful career as an entrepreneur, barber, and franchisor with a footprint throughout South Africa.

Tatchell left his banking call centre job more than a decade ago, in pursuit of a career as a barber. Armed with little more than clippers, scissors, and blades, Tatchell started cutting gentlemen's hair outside his cousin's internet café in 2011. Those were the humble beginnings of Legends Barbershop.

Today, Legends has close to 60 barbershops in South Africa, around half of them franchised, has expanded into Botswana, and will open its first store in Namibia on Saturday.

Along the way, Tatchell has become known as South Africa's barber to the stars, having snipped and styled celebrities like Black Coffee, DJ Fresh, AKA, Ricky Rick, and Usher.

The latest chapter in this success story involves a partnership with online food ordering and delivery platform, Uber Eats. The partnership has the potential to reach more than 150,000 Uber Eats customers per month.

"We are looking forward to joining Uber Eats and are excited about the convenience that this will afford our customers," said Tatchell.

"We are thrilled to engage with new customers who we were previously unable to reach."

Legends has already integrated seven stores with Uber Eats, including Menlyn in Pretoria, Florida Road and Ballito in Durban, Northriding in Johannesburg North, South Gate in Johannesburg South, Vincent Park in East London, and Long Street in Cape Town.

More stores will be added in the near future, according to Tatchell.

"The digital marketplace is a convenient space where businesses and customers connect hassle-free. We are excited and proud of this partnership, especially because it demonstrates the growth of Uber Eats beyond connecting users to merchants selling food," said Nakampe Molewa, General Manager of Uber Eats Sub-Saharan Africa.

"Other areas we have ventured into include convenience stores and pharmacy outlets as well as retail. We are looking forward to seeing Legends Barbershop grow from strength to strength on the app."

Legends Barbershop products that can now be ordered and delivered through Uber Eats include wave kits, brushes, sponges, beard oils, and hair spray.
