These were Takealot's top-selling products this Black Friday - you won't believe what the hottest toy was
With over R196 million in transactions over Black Friday, Takealot has alot to smile about - it saw 125% year-on-year growth and 127% growth in orders. Likewise, sister company Superbalist also hit record numbers with its biggest-ever trading day - generating R40 million in revenue.
“We paid special attention to securing quality deals on top brands… Electronics again proved to be a firm favourite with over three thousand TV’s sold on the day,” said CEO Kim Reid.
The company says it did not see much impact on sales due to intermittent issues with its credit card payment provider.
"In terms of the credit card issue, we don't believe this had too much of an impact. We reached our Black Friday revenue targets and therefore, ultimately, we are very happy with how the day turned out," Takealot said.
Among Takealot's top sellers (by units sold) were some surprising items.
Tommy Hilfiger Girl EDC 50ml For Her perfume was the top seller on the site, followed by the Nu Camp Folding Table.
Pampers nappies were very popular - taking three of the top-ten bestseller spots. The Pampers Active Baby Mega Pack (Size: 5 Junior) was the third most-bought item.
These items were in the 4th, 5th and 6th spots: the WD Elements 1TB portable hard drive, the new DSTV Explora 2 and Volkano Bluetooth Speakers.
The bestselling toy of the day was the Jeronimo My First Sewing Machine, while the bestselling book was Prooi by local author Deon Meyer.
With over 180,000 items sold, Superbalist's big sellers were women's shoes and the Sixth Floor, a range of apartment essentials. Sixth Floor was the best-selling brand on the day.
