McDonald's has launched an investigation regarding a recent incident — involving a frog — at its Secunda outlet.
The unpleasant find occurred on May 6, and saw the Bezuidenhout family receive an unwelcome surprise in the form of a frog with a burger order. Willem Bezuidenhout took to Facebook to post about the McFroggie in his daughter's chicken burger.
The post written in both English and Afrikaans read, "Thank you Secunda Mcdonalds for the not so wonderful surprise on my daughter's meal tonight, 6 May 2022! I always thought things like this happen in the movies, but now it is happening with us this evening. Yes, all of you are seeing right this is a McFroggie."
Daniel Padiachy, chief of marketing, communications, IT and supply chain at McDonald's says they are committed to serving fresh food and so it remains a top priority for the fast food chain.
"We take this matter very seriously and are working with all parties to ensure this is resolved," he said.
This is how some South Africans reacted across social media
Many couldn't quite believe a frog could end up in the burger…
I don't believe it one bit,how does a frog end up in the kitchen? Survive in a hot burger? Makes no sense ??

… while others pondered and questioned whether they would be able to trust their burgers.

A chef shared her former experience of a similar incident and how the situation went as far as her being tested by a lie detector, but is convinced the frog came from the lettuce.
I’ll be very honest with you. This has happened to me a few years ago. I had to even go on a lie detector ??And we thought maybe the customers are playing us. And if I’m seeing it now on Twitter a few years later, then I’m certain that frog comes from lettuce.????

& this little frog our client found was also on a burger. I can never stress the importance of food safety in the kitchen; receiving lettuce from a supplier doesn’t mean it’s 100% clean, we still have to clean it twice. Finding a baby frog in food is rare but it happens.
