- The Kruger National Park has shared photos of lions walking the streets of the Skukuza staff village.
- It is unusual for them to go close to the village, but on Monday they entered the village as the national lockdown shut down traffic and human activity.
- Lions have also been enjoying the Skukuza golf course.

After pictures of lions sun-bathing on empty Kruger National Park roads were shared across the world – the big cats are back, this time “patrolling” the streets of the Skukuza staff village.
In a tweet, SanParks joked that the lions were “enforcing” the national lockdown among its staff. Skukuza, situated on the southern banks of the Sabie River, is the park's largest rest camp and administrative headquarters. It is also currently under lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Pictures - taken by Johan Malan, who’s with SanPark’s veterinary services - show the lions walking on the deserted roads inside the staff village early on Monday morning:
Ike Phaahla, general manager of communications and marketing at SanParks, says the lions usually do not come close to the village if there is a presence of people or movement.

Apart from roaming national park roads, lions have also been hanging out at the Skukuza golf club. Last week, SanParks shared photos of their adventures on the golf course, taken by greenskeeper Jean Rossouw.
Lions are also seen chasing a hyena.
Even as the sun rises, without all our human visitors, the urge to sing the 'lion sleeps tonight' is just a whim away, a whim away, a whim away!?? ©? Jean Rossouw; Skukuza Golf Club , Kruger National Park@SANParks pic.twitter.com/M9XiagVqjX
