South Africa's LIFT airline, which first launched almost one year ago, is now offering packaged holidays that include flights, car hire, meals, and accommodation.

LIFT first took to South African skies in December 2020, and, since then, has successfully weathered the Covid-19 storm which has disrupted the aviation industry. The airline only operates between Cape Town and Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport using a fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft.

It was the first South African airline to launch a dog-friendly booking option – where the pet is allowed to travel in the cabin – back in April. Five months later, LIFT introduced its premium offering, with blocked-off middle seat and additional baggage allowances.

Now, the airline looks to capitalise on packaged holidays ahead of the summer season. Branded as "LIFT Experiences", the new offering, officially launched on Tuesday, allows travellers to choose from selected holidays in or around Johannesburg and Cape Town.

"While curated travel experiences have become a standard in the travel industry, LIFT has gone out of its way to partner with service providers who offer better flexibility though LIFT Experiences, allowing travellers to tailor travel experiences as much as possible," said LIFT CEO and co-founder, Jonathan Ayache.

At least 15 of these LIFT Experiences were listed by the airline at the launch.

These packaged holidays start at around R3,150 per person sharing (PPS), for a classic car ride along the Western Cape's iconic Route 62 and 2-night stay at the Montagu Country Hotel. Return LIFT flights to Cape Town, car rental with Europcar, and breakfast are included in the price.

These experiences currently listed extend up to R8,895 PPS for a 2-night stay, with private wood-fired hot tub, at the Mosaic Lagoon Lodge near Hermanus. This experience includes car rental, return flights, and breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Holidaymakers will even get a complimentary bottle of wine.

Other LIFT Experiences include game drives in the Waterberg Mountains, a trip to Sun City, gin tasting at the Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg, and a helicopter flight over the Atlantic Ocean.

"Travellers no longer want to 'just get away', 'revenge travel' is real, and South Africans want to optimise their experiences and make the most of their holidays," said Ayache, adding that LIFT had partnered with service providers who allow for flexibility in changes to bookings.

"Before Covid-19, travel flexibility wasn't such a huge requirement, but today it is a must. Hotels and other travel providers are taking the same approach, making travel possible even in uncertain times."
