If you absolutely, positively must have a denim jacket made by Levi's with a giant Pikachu across the back – and you have R2,300 to spend on it – you're not entirely out of luck yet. Just as long as your size is XXL.
The Levi’s X Pokémon crossover range, a celebration of 25 years of the characters, launched in South Africa on Monday. By Thursday morning some of the main attractions were either sold out, or available only in limited sizes.
Nothing in the range, which is inspired by the first season of the animated series, is exactly cheap, but South Africans are not paying a premium compared to other countries: a pair of women's jeans with some Pokémon line drawings on the bottom of the legs is, apparently, simply worth R2,000.

"This collection was designed to capture the playful spirit of the Pokémon world featuring eye-catching designs with vibrant pops of colors, heavily inspired by Pokémon friends," says Levi's of the range.
That seems to have hit home with South African buyers.
Here's what has already sold out, just days after the launch of Levi’s X Pokémon in South Africa.
The R500 red-and-white trucker hat, similar to the one Ash Ketchum is rarely seen without, is out of stock.
So is the R700 cross-body Pokéball bag...
...though you can still get a drawstring gym bag with "a vibrant all-over Pokémon garden print" for the same price.
The R1,300 hoodies are gone...
... as are the R1,300 sweatshirts.
If you must have something to cover your torso, you can still get a R700 long-sleeved shirt featuring a print of Ash and Misty, though – just not in large or extra large.
But for R1,500, you can still get a pair of high-rise, regular fit "Pokémon Misty's Jean Shorts" across all available sizes.
