Children between the ages of two and 13 can earn Discovery Miles through the Vitality Active Rewards programme by completing weekly challenges. These tasks include age-appropriate physical exercises, eating healthy meals and practicing digital awareness tests. Signing up for Vitality Active Rewards before 14 February 2021 could also net a rare PlayStation 5.
Officially launched at the end of 2019, the Vitality Active Rewards for kids has recently expanded to include an app-based incentive programme, complete with challenges aimed at encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle through behavioural change.
The challenges, which promote interaction between parents and their children, have become even more popular due to the prolonged coronavirus-induced cabin fever. With both children and parents spending more time at home, due to school closures and remote work protocols, the app has seen a surge in usage. This coincides with South Africans becoming more health conscious, realising the dangers of comorbidities within the context of Covid-19.
“Family bonds have been crucial to successfully navigating the uncertainties and lifestyle changes that the Covid-19 pandemic have brought with it,” explains Vitality Clinical Wellness Specialist, Dr Seranne Motilal.
“Providing members, young and old, with the opportunity to grow these bonds by jointly engaging in a goal-oriented, fun and rewarding healthy activity is something we are hugely enthusiastic about.”
To sign-up, parents, as the main Vitality members, need to make sure they have the latest version of the Discovery app. The main member can then access the 'Kids and Teens' section within their Vitality Active Rewards profile. Parents will then need to create a profile for their children.
Importantly, children will only be able to access and engage with the app via their parents’ mobile devices.
Once set up, kids and parents will be able to select co-op challenges which focus on four key areas. Healthy eating, physical activity, digital awareness, daily routines, like dental care and sleep hygiene, are included as themes in weekly challenges.
Each completed weekly challenge can earn up to 25 Discovery Miles, which can be used to access discounts among popular brands and retailers.
The Vitality Active Rewards for Kids x Sony PlayStation promotion, which was officially launched in December, give kids the chance to win a PlayStation 5 and two games. Due to legalities, the main member will effectively enter the competition on the child’s behalf and must ensure that at least two challenges are successfully completed before 14 February 2021.
Although the “the competition winner will be randomly selected by Vitality”, the amount of engagement with the app will be taken into account.
Discovery Miles earned by completing challenges can be used to get discounted offers from brands like Steam, Typo, Kauai, Cotton On, and the Sony PlayStation store.
