Ivanka Trump on Tuesday congratulated Boris Johnson on winning the race to become the next prime minister of "the United Kingston" in a now-deleted tweet.

"Congratulations @BorisJohnson? on becoming the next Prime Minister of the United Kingston," the US president's eldest daughter wrote on Twitter.

The tweet was quickly removed and replaced it with one correctly spelling "United Kingdom."

Johnson was selected by Conservative members as the party's new leader on Tuesday. He's set to replace Theresa May in Downing Street on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump also congratulated Johnson on his victory, tweeting: "Congratulations to Boris Johnson on becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He will be great!"

The US president has referred to Johnson as his friend, and the pair are thought to have held discussions over the phone this week.
