Telkom is not offering free Twitter and Instagram, the telecom group said on Monday afternoon.
This after a Telkom-branded Twitter account, @Telkom_SA, tweeted that Telkom will soon offer consumers these social media platforms for free.
@Telkom_SA’s tweet has been retweeted over 900 times, and liked more than 1,600 times by Monday afternoon.
On Twitter, Telkom’s official handel @TelkomZA asked customers should take note of the scam profile. “We advise you to please refrain from engaging with them. Thank you.”

Telkom told Business Insider South Africa that the tweet about free social media access was sent from a fake profile which is not associated with them.
Twitter users voiced their disappointment that Telkom isn’t offering free access to the popular social media sites.

Telkom, the country’s largest biggest landline provider, is South Africa’s fourth largest cellular provider, behind Cell C, Mtn and Vodacom.
