While some are resorting to humour, other South Africans have taken to panic buying in a big way.

And 'No Corona formed against us shall prosper, we survived pink polony,' seems to be a common thread - in reference to the Listeria outbreak in South Africa two years ago.

Although there are no fatalities in South Africa as a result of Covid-19, over 180 people died of the listeriosis outbreak two years ago.
