Stores selling hardware can reopen to everyone under Level 4 of the national lockdown.
These shops were closed in the first part of lockdown, and in mid-April were allowed to open only to “qualified tradespersons”, who were restricted to buying supplies needed for emergency repairs at residential homes.
Stores had to keep a register of everyone who bought goods.
But from 1 May, retailers who sell hardware, components and supplies will be open to everyone, according to government regulations released on Wednesday.
Components for vehicles undergoing emergency repairs can also be sold.
The stores must make sure that customers keep a distance of at least one and a half metres from each other, along with other health protocols intended to slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2.
Under Level 4, plumbers, electricians, locksmiths, glaziers and roof repair workers are allowed to do only emergency repair work at residences and businesses.
