(Wimpy)
  • Buying votes is illegal, but Wimpy will reward you for voting.
  • Showing your marked thumb will get you a free cup of coffee (worth about R20) at any Wimpy on 8 May.
  • The chain says voting is a responsibility, and it wants to show appreciation for those who shoulder it.

On Wednesday, 8 May, every Wimpy across South Africa will give you a free cup of coffee just for showing up and showing your thumb.

An indelible-ink mark that shows you voted in South Africans national and provincial elections will entitle you to that cup of what is formally known as Wimpy Famous Coffee, a filter coffee that Wimpy normally sells for 10 cents shy of R20.

The chain says that voting is a responsibility, and it wants to show appreciation to those who shoulder that responsibility and cast their ballots.

Wimpy ran the same campaign, which it dubs #cupsforvotes, during the 2014 and 2019 national and provincial elections.
