What do family portraits and fried chicken have in common?

As South Africans, we know that food and family go together like soft, creamy mash and gravy (perfect for dipping golden-brown fries, of course), and the KFC bucket has been bringing South African families together for more than 50 years.

Family food traditions undoubtedly tie us together — especially lip-smacking moments around the dinner table over juicy, crispy drumsticks and thighs.

This month, South Africa's family-favourite, KFC, has launched another exciting collaboration with one of South Africa's hottest illustrators and local artists, Karabo Poppy, to celebrate families across the country.

Because sharing is caring, KFC recently developed a series of limited-edition Karabo Poppy buckets, encouraging customers to participate in some family fun.

"We are incredibly excited to be collaborating with the super talented Karabo Poppy. KFC believes that the beauty about family is that it comes in all shapes and sizes, with our famous buckets often being a reason to get together," says KFC SA's Marketing Director, Grant Macpherson.

"Karabo has brought that sentiment to life with these new Limited-Edition buckets, which we hope will entice fans to share a bucket and a special moment with those they love," he says.

"This project is personal to me as it speaks directly to the love of families, storytelling and coming together to enjoy a delicious meal. I'm honoured to get to capture this in my KFC x Karabo Poppy Family Portraits Series. I'm really excited to illustrate and highlight the diversity of SA families, both the families people are born into as well as the ones they have chosen," says the award-winning illustrator.

"When designing the illustrations, I wanted to look at the different types of families. I wanted to have a theme for each bucket but then also have a golden thread and a storyline that runs through all three bucket designs. I hope people will resonate with it by seeing unique things about their family," she continues.

From your homes to the KFC kitchen, KFC wants to meet your family.
