An aviation expert told News24 there were observers on the ground who reported seeing problems from the left engine and possibly the propeller on take-off.

The 65-year-old Convair CV340 crashed shortly after take-off. It was on a "pleasure flight", believed to have been on its way to a game reserve 180 kilometres away, said an aviation enthusiast said in an interview with News24.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is investigating the cause of the accident.
