Public hearings on the impeachment of US President Donald Trump kicked off on Wednesday with testimony from Bill Taylor, the acting US ambassador to Ukraine, and George Kent, the deputy assistant US secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.
The proceedings are being overseen by the House Intelligence Committee, led by Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff and Republican Rep. Devin Nunes.
But they may well have been overshadowed by a member of the public attending the hearings: a drag queen wearing a red vinyl dress.
She's been identified as Pissi Myles, a New York drag queen who, according to her bio, was dubbed "the title-holder of Miss Fish NYC 2014, a pageant to find the 'fishiest' queen in NYC." In 2017, she wrote and produced a parody video of "The Babadook" called "Babashook" about the Babadook being a gay icon, and she's been featured on RuPaul and Michelle Visage's podcast, "RuPaul: What's the Tee?"
Apparently, she's also highly engaged in politics. On Wednesday she was seen going through security and wandering through the halls of Congress, making quite an impression.
good morning to literally none of you except the drag queen who's at the capitol to watch today's impeachment hearing— danny nett (@dannynett) November 13, 2019
They say nothing surprises in Washington anymore, but that certainly wasn't the case on Wednesday.
