  • Checkers Sixty60 is reminding us that wearing masks means it has been a while since we have seen smiles.
  • It has now named categories after the scrapping of the mask mandate.
  • The categories are grouped together under "Masks-Off, Smiles-On".

The marketing people at supermarket chain Checkers Sixty60 online delivery service are at it again.

After tapping into the hype around Netflix's The Tinder Swindler documentary, the country having to deal with load shedding once again, and the rising petrol price, it's now taking on the dropping of the mask mandate.

News that South Africans no longer have to wear a mask in public has been widely welcomed, but it also means people have to get used to showing their full faces and pearly white teeth in public again.

It's been over two years of South Africans having to walk around like bandits, so with the dropping of the mask mandate they are being encouraged to show off their pearly whites. This has inspired Checkers Sixty60 to now group several products together under "Masks-Off, Smiles-On".

The several subheadings under "Masks-Off, Smiles-On" are: "Something to smile about", "99 Problems but dry lips ain't 1", "Extra fresh breath", "Keep them clean", and "Drop the mask, raise the glass".

Something to smile about

This category is self-explanatory. It's basically a toothpaste and toothbrush offering on the part of Checkers.

99 Problems but dry lips ain't 1

The one advantage that came with wearing a mask, was that it protected your lips from the sun. For those with sensitive lips, now might be a good time to buy some lip balm before they start cracking.

Extra fresh breath

When the toothpaste has already worn off and you just had a garlic pizza, some breath-changing gum might be very useful.

Keep them clean

I'm not saying after two years behind a mask, you might not be flossing your teeth, but maybe now would be a great time to get a roll.

Drop the mask, raise the glass

The Covid crisis might not be over officially, but not wearing a mask in public is a milestone that should be celebrated. So yes, go and treat yourself to that reasonably priced sparkling wine.
