A premium alcohol drive-through bottle store, where you can pick up a R4 560 bottle of Dom Pérignon or get an upgrade on a bottle of Irish whiskey, has opened in Fourways, Johannesburg.

Luxury waterfront dining and lifestyle venue Altitude Beach launched the option after liquor sales were allowed for off-premises consumption under Alert Level 3 of South Africa's lockdown, which is in place to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Under levels 4 and 5, the sale of alcohol was strictly prohibited, forcing liquor outlets and bars to shut down.

"As an 'on-consumption' venue with the limitations to trade, Altitude Beach needed to leverage that space we have, to create convenience for our customers [who] want to buy from us. We have also partnered with a few brands to create value propositions that include merchandise, limited edition glassware and mixes as part of the purchase," said Altitude Beach executive member Mike Lodder.

Orders can be placed via WhatsApp or email from Monday to Thursday, between 09:00 and 17:00, and you can pay with a card or do an EFT.

If you live within a 5km radius and don't want to drive, the store will deliver at no cost.

Drinks range from R80 for a bottle of wine to R4 560 for a bottle of champagne.  The menu includes soft drinks, beer, ciders, wine, whiskies, tequilas, brandies, cognac, rum and sparkling wine.

The outlet is also running several specials, including an upgrade on a bottle of Jameson Irish whiskey, branded goblets and a gin school experience. If you spend R4 500 or more, you'll get a free winter jacket worth R1 500.
