  • A number of companies are currently offering bursaries..

A number of companies are still offering bursaries for the 2021 academic year, and some are already accepting applications for 2022.

The online platform Bursaries South Africa shared some of the bursaries that are still available. But applications for many of these bursaries need to be in by end-April. 

Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship 

Grade 12 students who are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering, law, commerce, humanities, arts or science (excluding medicine, dentistry and veterinary science) can apply for the Allan Gray bursary.

First and second-year students studying the same courses can also apply.

The bursary will fund 100 students for the 2022 academic year. Find more information here

Shoprite 

The Shoprite Group bursary is available for students studying Accounting (CA Stream: SAICA), Information Technology or Data Science. After completing their studies, students will also be invited to join the retailer’s academies. This includes Shoprite’s Data Science Academy based in Cape Town where apprentices follow a year-long programme in data science.  

Applicants should not be older than 27 years of age.

Columbus Stainless 

Students who want to study process instrumentation, mechanical engineering, physical metallurgy, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, material science and chemistry can apply for the Columbus Stainless bursary.

GrandWest Bursary

Students who reside in the Western Cape and want to study at the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University or the Cape Peninsula University of Technology can apply for the GrandWest Socio-Economic Development (SED) Bursary.

It caters for students who are studying Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Hospitality, Human Resources, Marketing or Tourism.

South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF) 

This bursary is for fourth and fifth-year students at the University of Pretoria. Only two bursaries worth R10,000 each will be awarded to students.

Exxaro 

Students interested in courses within the core mining industry can apply. This includes courses in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Geology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mine Surveying and Mining Engineering.

All study related expenses will be fully covered by the bursary. Recipients will also be assisted with guidance from senior leaders in the company and will gain practical work exposure at Exxaro operations. They will also receive administrative support and monitoring.

Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa/ FPE Bursary

Postgraduate students in the field of pharmacy can apply for this bursary.

Undergraduate students in the same field can also apply, but only from June 2021.

Tegkor/ Nelson Mandela University Bursary

This bursary applies to students pursuing their studies in Accounting and Nelson Mandela University. The bursary caters for first year students studying BCom Accounting and BCom Accounting Sciences, second and third year students studying BCom Accounting (Chartered Accounting), BCom General Accounting and BCom Accounting Sciences.

It also invites postgraduate students studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA-CTA), Postgraduate Diploma in Accountancy (PGDA) and Postgraduate Diploma in Internal Auditing (PGDIA) to apply.
